Portfolio > Mend
In Mend, a series of darned or altered quilting squares, I explore the experience of adaptation, remaking and unification. Through the darning the fabric is made whole again, and a unified surface is created. The pieces are dependent upon each other. If taken apart a hole remains, and the parts fit together to make the piece whole again. The inherent meaning of quilting squares weighs heavily in these works. The strength of the American spirit, and the United States' current need of mending are inherent in the work.
