The Embedded series consists of found fabric with thread forced into the weave to create a drawing. The drawings relate back to the Altered series, an ongoing body of work between myself and Indian Rafoogars (darners.) In this new series, I translated structures into abstracted forms, focusing mostly on additions made to homes. I find these additions to be significant manifestations of change to the family structure. The families are adapting their structure to fit their current needs, showing both a physical and personal alteration.
As with most of my work, Embedded shifts between the personal/domestic and the political/global. I leave the edges of the fabric raw and loose and the threads dangling, nodding to living with precariousness and the knowlege that our lives can unravel at any given moment.
