The work in Mend emphasizes our need to repair the broken earth we inhabit. Mend is a call to action to do all we can. Crumpled and worn images of nature are repainted in an attempt to renew and stop the damage from spreading. Found objects are darned to be made whole again. But none of these loving actions of repair are enough, or appropriate to the harm inflicted. This echoes the daily despair one can feel when faced with global challenges. Washing my clothes on cold, avoiding single use plastics, and being mindful of my carbon footprint matters, but collective change on a much greater scale is urgently needed to correct the harm that is being inflicted to our planet.
