About the exhibition:

The gesture of repair in art is a powerful and moving metaphor for human healing, both physical and emotional. The exhibit Broken Yet Whole explores stories of mending in an evolving, multi-media exhibit that will take place between November 10, 2023 and February 15, 2024 at the International Surgical Science Museum (IMSS) in Chicago IL. The IMSS, centrally located in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, is the optimal location for this ambitious exhibit with its many rooms containing stories of medical advances born out of care and the intent to mend the body.

The project Broken Yet Whole consists of creatively mended domestic objects, such a broken ballerina figurine or a cracked white pitcher, displayed in the museum’s cases. Paintings, photographs, and textiles related to the theme of mending accompany the objects.
