The inspiration behind the No Fatalities series was a 1980s National Geographic image of a small airplane that was carrying relief supplies after an earthquake, crashing into a pick-up truck. It was a bad accident on top of a devastating earthquake. The text next to the image described the accident, and reported that there were No Fatalities. It was a near miss. The image touched on my feelings about being a survivor in the ongoing pandemic as well as personal near misses I have experienced. The series No Fatalities holds these strong feelings of sudden trauma and a survivor’s relief together in a single image.
