The pieces in Altered are created in collaboration between myself and Indian Rafoogars (darners) and were inspired by artist Priya Ravish Mehra. For over 10 years, Priya worked with Rafoogars for her project “Making the Invisible Visible.” Many years ago, she invited me to her studio to responded to the idea of creating through Rafoo (darning). Using my paper inlay work Landscape Observed as a starting place, I experimented with the implications of mending and recreating wholeness that darning evokes.
Altered was recently on view at Sundaram Tagore Gallery in Chelsea as a part of Alterations Activation Abstraction curated by Betty Seid.
